Where Is My Make, Model, And Serial Number?
The number printed on an appliance manual is usually incomplete. We need the number directly off of the appliance itself.
Some things to take note of here:
- It is almost never on the back of an appliance. They are usually somewhere where you don’t have to pull it out.
- The make of the appliance is often on a medallion or tag on the front of the appliance. If that is missing it can often be found on the model and serial number tag.
- It may help to use your cell phone to take a picture of the tag in order to blow it up so you can actually read it. The print is small. That tag is located in different locations depending on the appliance.
- Older models it was a metal tag with the numbers punched into them. Newer ones the model number tag is usually a few inches wide by about an inch tall and is usually white with black lettering.
Refrigerators
Most refrigerators have the model number high in the refrigerator section, either on the left or right wall of the fresh food section or on the ceiling of the fresh food section. Some have it on the bottom right where your right foot would kick the panel on the floor level.
Freestanding Freezers
It’s often on the side where the vents are on chest freezers. On upright freezers, it is usually high on the left or right side inside the freezer or on the ceiling inside the freezer. You have to look up to see it on those.
Ovens / Ranges
Most oven ranges have the model number on the frame of the range on the side after you open the drawer at the bottom. Sometimes, it is around the edge of the oven door frame. A few models have a little metal piece that flips up like the flag on a mailbox behind the back console and you can read it there. Occasionally, it’s on the top of the back console where you have to lean over the top to see. Some models, it’s under a burner pan.
Stovetops Without An Oven
Sometimes, you have to remove a drawer to look up under the stove to see the model number underneath. Some gas models, it is under a burner drip pan.
Dryers
It’s almost always around the door frame or on the door. Occasionally, it’s on the top of the back console where you have to lean over the top to see. Very rarely, it’s on one of the sides.
Washers
It’s almost always around the door frame or on the door or under the lid on top loads. Occasionally, it’s on the top of the back console where you have to lean over the top to see. Very rarely, it’s on one of the sides.
Dishwashers
Usually, it’s around the door frame. Sometimes, you have to look up to see it on top of the door frame. Some brands, like Bosch, put it on the right side of the door and it swings with the door.
Microwaves
For these, it’s usually inside the door or in the cooking area on the wall.
Without a model number, there is no way to look up the correct parts for your appliance.
